The Lifesaving Foundation and its members have been the recipients of a number of international awards and honours.
Robert Cadman, a long-time director of the Lifesaving Foundation, seldom speaks about his role as a young first aider on Bloody Sunday in Derry, 40 years ago. Time and again he risked his life trying to save others and was shown in a recent History Channel documentary performing CPR in the middle of a road while bullets were exchanged around him between soldiers and the IRA.
He has dedicated his working life to promoting awareness of water safety in Sligo, setting up the first approved swim school in Rosses Point being just one of his many feats.
The Sligo Champion newspaper recently did an article on Robert Cadman.
